Mrs. Benafer Chauga Pricipal, Udayachal Pre-Primary School

A Welcome
From Our Principal

Mrs. Binaifer Chhoga

Udayachal Pre-Primary and Primary Schools.

The pivotal role that education plays in society can never be undermined. In the words of Swami Vivekananda – “How can there be/any progress of the country without the spread of education, the dawning of knowledge?”

Udayachal has always emphasized the importance of each individual child, allowing the child to achieve maximum potential, no matter what the background. There is nothing that cannot be achieved if there is synergy in the team – curious children ever-willing to learn, concerned parents who support our ventures, diligent staff who go beyond their call of duty and who are safety conscious. Each of them complement the other, bringing goals to fruition.

As with education at all levels, our focus is 3-pronged -knowledge, skills and attitudes (head, heart and hands) are each given their due importance. Character building is part of the role we play. Teachers are allowed to innovate different methodologies in the classroom. Always multi-tasking, my team members motivate each other, allowing talent to bloom.

An area of concern that will impact our future, and which we consciously bring into the classroom, is our contribution to make our children responsible for doing their bit to save Mother Earth. Each child is a green buddy and knows that we have only one planet and we need to do all we can to protect it.

The winds of change are blowing across the country and technological advances are fast entering the classrooms, even in pre-schools. Yet we should not fail to understand the developmental needs of little children and therefore, there must be a greater amount of experiential hands-on learning at a young age.

Udayachal offers myriad opportunities to its students to blossom into wholesome individuals, justifying our vision ‘Nurturing individuals towards everlasting excellence and universal understanding.’ It is with pride that we follow the progress of our little ones as they continue to thrive in our secondary school.

None of this would have been possible without an ever-supportive Management. Mrs. Smita Godrej Crishna is constantly by our side and the Godrej team comprising Mr. Verma, Ms. Kaur, Mr. Prasanna and Mr. Surve are together a buttress in our times of need. It is not without reason that I feel truly blessed to belong to this fine institution.

May each year make us rise to new challenges and allow our students to continually soar and grow strong from within.

The Academic Year
and School Timings

  • Term I

    Early June to October/November

  • Term II

    October/November to end of April

The pre-primary school has a 5-day week, with Saturdays and Sundays being holidays. The school day consists of 3 hours with a choice of 2 shifts; 8:35 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. or 12:35 p.m. – 3:50 p.m.

Activities &
Methodology

The strength of each class is restricted to 25-30 students to ensure that each child receives individual attention whenever needed. Our focus is on different competencies and skills. That is why our teaching – learning process focuses on readiness for the 3 Rs (Reading, 'wRiting and 'aRithmetic).

English is the medium of instruction and there are only three main subjects - English, Arithmetic and Environmental Studies. The holistic approach to education in a child-friendly environment is worthy of emulation, which is why teacher-training colleges have Udayachal on their “must visit” list.

The way a subject is broached often determines how it is received and understood. We give the highest importance to methodology, in the curriculum.

The academic curriculum is designed to promote the following faculties in an atmosphere which is conducive to overall growth and emotional well-being:

  1. a.Stimulating reasoning skills
  2. b.Encouraging questioning and curiosity in an open atmosphere
  3. c.Creativity and originality
  4. d.Fostering independence and confidence
  5. e.Fluency in speech and communication
  6. f.Motor development through physical exploration

The methodology adopted in pursuing this curriculum is designed to make learning experiential, fun and permanent.

Where learning is age-appropriate
The text book a mere tool
And nature a co-teacher
Oh, what fun to come to Udayachal School!

Curriculum
Activities & Events

Co-curricular activities not only serve as a break from the intensity of the curriculum, but also develop students’ appreciation of creative pursuits, arts and culture. Here are some of the glimpses of the co-curricular activities in our school:

Art & Handwork

Art & Handwork

Art and handwork are given prominence in our curriculum alongside the message of sustainability. Each child is encouraged to create out of waste material. Students recycle and turn such items into utility based aesthetic articles.

The different techniques that children learnt help to strengthen their fine motor skills and improve muscular coordination. Children also learn to express themselves through the medium of clay.

Ceramics

Children work sheer magic with their hands and express their innate feelings. The joy they experience as the lump of clay is slowly transformed into a piece of art is worth beholding.

Music & Movement

Children learn songs in different Indian languages which they go on to perform at the school assemblies and cultural programmes. Consequently, our programmes always reflect the variety and richness of our cultural heritage. Plenty of innovative musical instruments made out of waste encourage children to play in rhythm. Dances that reflect the real Indian tradition are fun and a wonderful way to exercise!

Dramatics

Regular programmes, besides Annual Days are designed to promote self expression, confidence and creativity.
